Distinctive Options is a community based, not-for-profit Company limited by guarantee with its registered office at Suite 12, 33 - 35 Macedon Street, Sunbury (ACN 090 842 470). Governance is provided through a Board of Directors elected by and from the membership of Distinctive Options.
We provide support services to adults with disabilities residing in Melbourne's north-west and surrounding urban and rural communities.
We have an Employment Unit with offices in Broadmeadows, St Albans, Sunbury, Melton and Bacchus Marsh. Assistance is provided from these locations for people with an injury or disability to seek and retain employment in the open labour market. This unit of Distinctive Options is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and operates in accordance with the Commonwealth Disability Services Standards.
We also have a Lifestyle Unit that operates an Adult Training and Support Service (ATSS) in Sunbury. This unit is funded by the Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) to promote and maintain independence as well as improve community access for adults with intellectual disabilities. This unit of Distinctive Options operates in accordance with the Victorian Standards for Disability Services.
The constitution of Distinctive Options lists the following objectives:
To promote and assist in the development of generic services and facilities, which support the integration of people with disabilities, and other special needs group, into mainstream community life including employment opportunities;
To ensure that a range of services and training is structured in such a way as to provide clients with appropriate levels of support, a choice of opportunities, and the chance to maximise their potential and independence;
To promote within the general community a positive image of people with disabilities or special needs that accentuates their abilities rather than their disabilities;
To assist people with disabilities or other special needs , their families and friends, to come together for support and to share information for their mutual benefit;
To regularly evaluate the services and facilities available to people with disabilities or other special needs and, if necessary, advocate on their behalf; and
To co-operate with or support any Authority, Agency or like bodies, having similar objects.
